Oceanic Society Field Station, Blackbird Caye

Blackbird Caye, on the eastern side of Turneffe Atoll, is located 32 miles from Belize City. The Blackbird-Oceanic Society Field Station is bordered by white sand beaches and is situated adjacent to a series of coral islets that comprise the atoll’s fringing reef. Because of its distance from the mainland, the waters are clear and the reefs are pristine. Participant accommodations are in six, comfortable double occupancy beachfront cabanas, each with an open porch facing the Caribbean Sea. Snorkeling from the white sand beach is excellent. The cabanas include private bath (bathroom facilities include flush toilet, sink and hot water stall shower), two full-size beds, small storage closet, a fan, and 110-volt AC electrical plugs, powered by generator usually 24 hours a day.

Black Orchid Resort rests along the banks of the historic Belize Old River on the outskirts of scenic Burrell Boom Village. This charming resort has 12 comfortably appointed air conditioned rooms. You can easily escape to the river for canoeing, kayaking, paddle boating or take a powerboat cruise up the river spotting along the way for birds, howler monkeys and iguanas. If you have a mind just to chill out you can lay back in a hammock under towering trees while sipping a cool tropical drink or slip into the pool for a refreshing dip.
