Uganda Gorilla Trek with Wildlife Experts
Uganda is renowned for its mountain gorillas and chimpanzees. It is also a paradise for primate lovers of all kinds, with 13 species of diurnal and 6 nocturnal primates; one of the highest primate densities in the world. The vast number of primates sets this country apart from other East African countries such as Kenya and Tanzania, since Uganda also has healthy populations of lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, giraffe and a variety of antelope, including the stunning, endemic Uganda kob, whose elaborate mating rituals have been the source of several National Geographic specials. In many ways, Uganda has the best of everything the continent has to offer: the tallest mountain range in Africa, the source that feeds the world’s longest river and the continent’s largest lake. This incredible array of landscapes range from the 16,000 ft. snowcapped Mountains of the Moon to the incomparable Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to 400 mountain gorillas, nearly half the world’s population.
A new dawn of wildlife eco-tourism has risen in Uganda, as decades of unrest have given way to a stable democratic republic, a strong economy, and an increase in wildlife habitat conservation finally befitting a country long known as the ‘Pearl of Africa’. Uganda also remains one of the safest destinations in Africa, with two ideal seasons to visit: December through the end of February, and again from June to September. The weather during both of these times of year is generally dry, and warm, averaging around 77 degrees.

Uganda - with South Africa: 14 Days of Insider's Africa: Meerkats, Gorillas & Africa's Rare 5
This is the ideal second safari to Africa for travelers who have already seen the “Big 5”. We start in Uganda with Gorilla trekking, where in typical Wild Planet Adventures’ style we’ve made special arrangements to spend 2-4 times the traditional amount of time in intimate contact with Gorillas, guided by scientific researchers, plus safaris for Chimpanzees, tree-climbing lions, mongoose and more. We continue to South Africa and a convenient stop at a very remote private reserve in the little-known savannah of the “Green Kalahari” for Meerkats, Pangolin (scaly Anteater), Aardwolf, Aardvark, and Cheetah, the best place to see some of Africa’s rarest animals. This is an incredibly unusual combination of truly “once-in-a-lifetime” safaris that feature scientific researcher-led up-close wildlife interactions for Meerkats, Gorillas, Chimps and Africa’s Rare 5.
