Small Ship Cruises

Our world is connected by vast oceans and intimate rivers. Unlike any other form of travel, a small ship adventure cruise gives you a “big perspective” of the region without the large-scale tourism experience of a big cruise line. Whether it be the adventurous antarctic seas, the protected Galapagos archipelago, or the tropical waterways of the Amazon river and Pantanal wetlands, our destinations are chosen for their natural beauty and ability to offer exceptional wildlife viewing.  In some cases, only a small ship expedition cruise can offer the kind of access to wildlife that Wild Planet is known for. Our Expedition Icebreakers traverse the frozen waters of the Antarctic so efficiently we are able to access 14 landing points in 8 landing days, which is twice to 4 times the landings of any other Antarctic cruise. Our 1st Class Galapagos “ ultimate Wildlife” cruises have kayaks on board, are timed to avoid the crowds, and include the highest guide ratio in the Galapagos.  And if you’re looking for something remote and completely different, discover our Brazil Pantanal Cruise where jaguars are regularly seen, otters play around our boat daily, and is a perfect combination with our luxury Amazon cruise! The destination is up to you - a small ship expedition cruise allows you a relaxing travel experience full of amenities while enabling you to visit the world’s most remote and wildlife-rich destinations. Below are some of our most popular small ship adventure cruises.

Antarctica - Ultimate Wildlife Cruise–20 Day South Georgia & Falkland Islands MS Hebridean Sky

The pack ice begins to break up, and the landscape is at its most pristine, with plenty of fresh snow. It’s mating season for the penguins and other birds. Adélie, Chinstrap, and Gentoo penguins and other seabirds return to their breeding sites. You’re likely to witness courtship displays, nest building, and egg tending. In South Georgia, Elephant Seals and Fur Seals are mating, and King Penguins are laying their eggs. Parents can be seen “carrying” eggs on their feet so that one parent can shuffle around the colony while the other adult goes out to sea to feed. This is a fantastic time for photography, as the start of summer brings with it amazing sunsets and ever-changing cloud formations. This is also the time when albatross, marine fulmars, and petrels adorn the Southern Ocean, and the blue-eyed shags return to the region. Learn More>
